Intangible Cultural Heritage Days

Initiated by the Patrimoine Vivant de Marie-Galante association and organized in partnership with the Minister of Culture, the first edition of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Days for the Antilles and Guyana took place from May 20 to 22, 2019, in Guadeloupe. This event marked a unique milestone for the Overseas Regions.

It was an opportunity to assess what the concept of intangible cultural heritage can bring in the ultramarine context, understand the expectations it generates, and identify and discuss the cultural and economic challenges it faces.

The event brought together institutional and private sector stakeholders from Martinique, Guyana, Réunion, Dominica, and Jamaica. The goal was to engage in roundtable discussions addressing the main issues of safeguarding and promoting ICH in the Overseas Territories.

These three days of workshops and conferences provided a platform for sharing regional experiences on the specifics and complementarities of ICH in the Antilles and Guyana. It featured valuable testimonies from a diverse range of regional and national institutional and associative actors.
